Why in news?

  • European Commission adopted the first designation decisions under the Digital Services Act (DSA)

About Digital Services Act:

  • The Digital Services Act is a regulation in EU law to update the Electronic Commerce Directive 2000 regarding illegal content, transparent advertising, and disinformation
  • The act provides set of common rules on intermediaries’ obligations and accountability across the single market
  • Its  objective is to tightly regulate the intermediaries, especially large platforms such as Google, Facebook, and YouTube, function when it comes to moderating user content.
