Why in news?
- 8 ‘nutraceutical-immunity boosting’ products were launched under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Priyojana (PMBJP).
About PMBJP:
- It aims to make quality generic medicines available at affordable prices for all, particularly the poor and disadvantaged, through exclusive outlets.
- It also aims to spread awareness and create demand for generic medicines,.
- It covers all districts in the country.
- All State Governments shall be directed to open Janaushadhi Kendras in Government run hospitals and medical colleges
What is BPPI?
- BPPI is the implementing agency of Pradhan Mantri Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).
- BPPI was established in December, 2008 under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India.
- It works under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers.
- Affordable generic drugs are procured from pharmaceutical companies by the BPPI and supplied to various Janaushadhi Kendras under PMBJP.
