WHY IN NEWS?

The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) announced the “Self Regulation for Online Curated Content Providers”, naming Hotstar, Voot, Jio, and SonyLiv as signatories.

ABOUT IMAI

  • The Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) is not-for-profit industry body registered under the Societies Act, 1896.
  • Its mandate is to expand and enhance the online and mobile value-added services sectors.
  • IAMAI also put forward the problems and requirements of the businesses to the consumers, shareholders, investors and the government of India.
  • IAMAI is a specialized industry body in India representing the interests of online and mobile value-added services industry.
  • With significant discontent from the industry, the representative body for Internet companies has developed a self-regulatory Digital Curated Content Complaint Council (DCCC) to receive complaints on online content such as video streaming.
  • The code states that signatories will not make available “content which promotes and encourages disrespect to the sovereignty and integrity of India” or “promotes and encourages terrorism and other forms of violence against the State (of India) or its institutions”.
