Why in news?
- The Joynagar Moa, the popular Bengal sweet got 10 year extension for its Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
About Joynagar Mao:
- Jaynagarer Moa is a seasonal Bengali sweetmeat delicacy prepared from date palm jaggery and Kanakchur rice.
- Kanakchur is an aromatic rice variety from West Bengal.
- The variety is somewhat tender, which makes it all the more rare and unique
- This variety of Moa originated in Jaynagar of the South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal.
