Why in news?
- The International Solar Alliance (ISA) conducted its 5th regional meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.
Major steps taken by ISA at Kigali:
- ISA grants have facilitated the implementation of nine solar power demonstration projects in Uganda, Comoros, and Mali.
- These projects included the solarization of rural healthcare centres and primary schools in these countries.
- ISA also launched the SolarX Startup Challenge, promoting entrepreneurship and clean energy in Africa.
About Kigali, Rwanda:
- Kigali is the capital city of Rwanda. Kigali Genocide Memorial documents the 1994 mass killings in Rwanda, associated with the country’s civil war.
- Rwanda is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley of Central Africa, where the African Great Lakes region and Southeast Africa converge.
- Located a few degrees south of the Equator, Rwanda is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo
