IN NEWS:
- A virtual tour of the Sariska Tiger Reserve was presented during the 13th session of Ministry of Tourism’s Dekho ApnaDesh webinar.
ABOUT THE RESERVE:
- It is located in Alwar district of Rajasthan, along the Aravalli hills.
- It is composed of arid and dry deciduous forests.
- The reserve was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1958. It was given the status of a tiger reserve, making it a part of India's Project Tiger, in 1978.
- The area however, saw its last tiger killed by poachers in 2004. But tigers were brought in from Ranthambhore National Park to repopulate Sariska in 2008.
